“Life is priceless; KCG Tech values it”.

Every year the World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on 10th September. Suicide is becoming a social problem. Each year 800,000 people take their own lives. According to a latest report, in 2021 roughly 93, 580 died by committing suicide in India. After COVID the suicidal rates are on the higher side.  By raising awareness, reducing the stigma around suicide and encouraging well-informed action, we can reduce instances of suicide around us.

Indian Association for Suicide Prevention and World Health Organisation has announced the theme for the year 2022 as “Creating Hope through Action”. To create hope through action, KCG College of Technology along with Y’s Service Club of Chennai Karapakkam, organised a 15 kms Marathon from KCG College of Technology, Karapakkam to Edward Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar. The KCG Tech students, staff and general public ran for the cause. The entire registration amount is given to SNEHA Suicide Prevention Centre.

Mr Anand MC, Director, SNEHA Suicide Prevention centre addressed the audience at the Elliot’s Beach on Suicide Prevention. He said that, “Suicide is a cry for help and the person do not really want to commit suicide. At the moment when the suicidal person is heard, given due care and support a life can be saved”. Prizeswere distributed to encourage the Marathon participants and pamphlets on suicide prevention were distributed to the public.
