By celebrating World Citizen Day we celebrate inclusiveness, embrace diversity and make everyone feel that they are part of the global community, said Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institutions, while delivering her presidential address on the occasion of World Citizen Day organized by KCG College of Technology, Chennai. She also highlighted the need for educational institutions to reach out to the underprivileged in the society and inculcate compassion and empathy in students.

Today, over four billion people are wired and connected to the Internet; it has brought about information and communication revolution and has changed every aspect of our lives, said the Chief Guest Mr. Mukund Padmanabhan, Editor, The Hindu. Discussing in detail how media influences our thoughts and behaviour in digital era, he asked the gathering to be cautious about fake news and breaking news and be critical of what they read, watch and consume.

Earlier, participating in a panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Anita Manuel, Dean, Student Affairs, panellists Lt. General Bobby Mathews (Retd.), Joint Director, Hindustan International Schools, Dr. Revathy Parameswaran, Principal, PS Senior Secondary School, and Mr. V.S. John, St. Michael’s Academy shared the various initiatives taken by their schools to help students embrace diversity and promote gender equality and inclusiveness.

The Chief Guest also gave away certificates and cash prizes to winners of Debate, Quiz, Essay Writing and Poster Making competitions held in connection with World Citizen Day.
