Sexual harassment & Posh Guidelines

1. Introduction

KCG College of Technology is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff. The institution strictly prohibits any form of sexual harassment and follows the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Act, 2013 to ensure safety, awareness, and redressal.

2. What is Sexual Harassment?

Sexual harassment refers to any unwelcome behaviour of a sexual nature that creates a hostile, intimidating, or offensive environment. It can be verbal, non-verbal, physical, written, or digital.

Examples include:

  • Unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favours
  • Passing sexual comments or jokes
  • Displaying sexually explicit content (offline or online)
  • Stalking, leering, or making obscene gestures
  • Sharing inappropriate messages, images, or emails
  • Physical contact or attempts to touch without consent
  • Threats or promises in exchange for sexual favours (“quid pro quo”)

3. POSH Act & Its Objectives

The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013 aims to:
  • Prevent sexual harassment
  • Provide a safe and secure environment
  • Prohibit any act of sexual misconduct
  • Set up Internal Committees for grievance redressal
  • Ensure timely and fair handling of complaints
In educational institutions, the Act applies to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

4. Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) – KCG College

KCG College has established a statutory Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as mandated by the POSH Act. The Committee is responsible for:
  • Receiving written complaints of sexual harassment
  • Conducting confidential inquiries
  • Providing counselling and support to the complainant
  • Recommending appropriate action based on findings
  • Ensuring zero retaliation and complete safety

5. How to File a Complaint?

Any student or employee facing sexual harassment can:

Step 1: Write a formal complaint

  • The complaint should be submitted within 3 months of the incident
  • It can be submitted physically or via official email

Step 2: Submit to the ICC

  • Complaints may be addressed to the ICC Chairperson or any committee member
  • Identity and details of the complainant will remain confidential

Step 3: Inquiry Process

  • ICC conducts a neutral and time-bound inquiry
  • Both sides are heard with complete fairness
  • Recommendations are submitted to the institution for action

8. Support & Resources

KCG College ensures emotional and legal support for survivors, including:
  • Counselling services
  • Guidance on complaint procedures
  • Help connecting with external support agencies
  • Assurance of safety, dignity, and privacy
