The Department of Automobile Engineering established in 2018, a centre dedicated to nurturing innovative automotive engineers who can meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving mobility sector. It is affiliated to Anna University and is a recognized research center for Ph.D. Our BE degree programs have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) since June 2025.
The department offers comprehensive exposure to areas – Vehicle design, Vehicle testing, Engine technology, Electric mobility and Automotive electronics. Well-equipped lab facilities- HERO- ASDC Skill Development centre, Bosch- Centre For Automotive Research, Engines Lab, CAD/CAE Lab, Vehicle Maintenance Lab. The program also includes Mini-projects, Internships, Technical training, and Capstone projects, ensuring strong industry readiness. The department promotes active learning through Value-added courses, NPTEL certifications, Industry visits, Workshops, Guest lecture and Technical clubs.
Students are encouraged to participate in national competitions such as BAJA, SUPRA, TIFAN and Go-Kart design challenges, fostering creativity, teamwork, and engineering problem-solving. The department combines strong academic foundations with hands-on practical training to prepare students for industry-ready careers.

“My journey in automobile engineering began with a passion for innovation and a desire to shape the future of transportation. As a research and development engineer at a prominent automotive company, I’ve been fortunate to contribute to groundbreaking projects in electric vehicle technology. From conceptualizing new battery management systems to optimizing energy efficiency in hybrid vehicles, every day presents a new challenge and opportunity to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of my job is collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and researchers. Together, we tackle complex problems, brainstorm innovative solutions, and prototype cutting-edge technologies that could redefine how we drive and interact with vehicles.In my role, I’ve had the privilege of seeing our ideas progress from the drawing board to real-world applications. Testing prototypes in the field and witnessing their impact on improving vehicle efficiency and reducing emissions is incredibly rewarding. It reinforces my belief that automobile engineering isn’t just about designing cars—it’s about creating solutions that address global challenges and improve the quality of life for people around the world.
