The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in collaboration with the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) India Chapter, organized an insightful guest lecture on the topic "Emerging Trends in Semiconductor Energy Harvesting" on 3rd October 2024. The event was graced by the presence of esteemed speaker Dr. Kishore Kumar P C, Senior Engineer, Nexperia R&D, Penang, Malaysia.
The event aimed to create awareness and share knowledge on the rapidly evolving domain of semiconductor energy harvesting—an area pivotal for realizing sustainable, low-power electronic systems. The theme of the session, “Paving the way for a sustainable future through innovation and energy conservation,” resonated deeply with the current global focus on clean technology and green energy.
Dr. Kishore Kumar began the session by introducing the fundamentals of energy harvesting and its critical role in the Internet of Things (IoT), wearable electronics, and autonomous sensors. He provided an overview of semiconductor-based energy harvesting techniques such as thermoelectric, piezoelectric, and photovoltaic methods, highlighting their practical applications and limitations.
The session also explored the latest trends in material science, including the use of wide bandgap semiconductors, nano-structured materials, and the integration of harvesting circuits into microchips. Dr. Kishore also shed light on ongoing R&D projects at Nexperia and global industry efforts toward achieving energy autonomy in next-generation devices.
The lecture was highly interactive, with students and faculty members actively engaging in a Q&A session. Dr. Kishore's industry insights and real-time examples from ongoing projects helped bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industrial applications.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the faculty coordinator of EWB India Chapter, appreciating Dr. Kishore Kumar’s valuable contribution and the collaborative efforts of the ECE department and EWB professional society.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, in collaboration with the EWB-India Chapter, organized a Seed and Tree Plantation Drive at KCG College of Technology with the aim of promoting environmental sustainability and creating a greener campus. The event reflected the institution’s commitment to social responsibility and ecological awareness among students and faculty.
The drive began with an inaugural address by the Dr. Kavitha Balamurugan, Head, Department of ECE, who emphasized the importance of planting trees as a crucial step towards combating climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and maintaining ecological balance. The EWB faculty coordinator highlighted the vision of Engineers Without Borders in contributing to sustainable development and community well-being.
The enthusiastic participation of students, faculty members, and staff members made the event highly impactful. More than five saplings and one hundred native seeds were planted across various zones near the campus. The selected plant species were chosen for their environmental value and adaptability to the local climate, including fruit-bearing trees, flowering plants, and shade-providing varieties.
Each participant took a pledge to nurture the plants and continue contributing towards a greener environment. The students expressed their joy in being part of this eco-friendly initiative and shared their ideas on how technology can be used to monitor the growth and health of the planted trees.
The event concluded with a group photo session and a thank-you note from the organizing committee. The initiative was a resounding success, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship and teamwork among the participants.
