The School of Fashion Technology places great emphasis on hands-on learning and skill development, with a strong focus on digital competencies. Our comprehensive laboratory infrastructure is integral to this approach, providing state-of-the-art facilities that train students in all aspects of fashion technology. We are proud to offer end-to-end resources that prepare our students for the modern fashion industry. We have been recognized with the “Outstanding Fashion Institute with Best Infrastructure” award at the 22nd World Education Summit & Awards.
Colors, patterns and various types of value addition are very significant Unique selling propositions (USP) of garments, which have the ability to influence mood, reflect the wearer’s personality and make them presentable and comfortable. The laboratory is equipped with facilities for sample dyeing, finishing, printing and fastness testing. The students will be trained in preparatory processes, dyeing and printing in different styles and methods on various textile raw materials. Some of the major equipment are Vats, pilot padding mangle, HTHP beaker dyeing machine, pilot curing chamber, spectrophotometer, laboratory drum machine etc.
The Fashion Designing Lab is a creative hub equipped with drawing tables and display boards. It helps hone the artistic and sketching skills essential for aspiring fashion technologists. Students can explore the use of various colors, drawing media, and substrates, experimenting with their combinations to achieve impactful results. Through hands-on practice, students refine their ability to create expressive fashion sketches, fabric renderings, model drawings, and detailed technical illustrations.
This laboratory is equipped with cork top tables, dummies, and mannequins in various sizes. Students learn how to take accurate body measurements for men, women, and children on both humans and dummies, honing their skills in draping and measurement techniques. The cork top tables provide a workspace for drafting basic garment patterns and practicing flat pattern techniques to create new designs from standard styles. A dedicated retail window is also part of the set up, allowing students to display their garments and showcase their creativity in visual merchandising.
The Garment Construction Labs have state-of-the-art infrastructure, designed to meet the demands of a standalone garment unit and support both production and student training. Equipped with advanced sewing machinery such as single needle lock stitch, flatlock, overlock, button stitching and holing machines, feed-off-the-arm, embroidery, computer-controlled sewing, and fabric cutting machines, these labs offer comprehensive resources. Students receive intensive hands-on training in operating and troubleshooting all the equipment, while mastering various garment construction techniques that align with the quality and techno-economic standards of the industry.
This lab equips students with the skills to use modern tools for designing garments, woven and knitted fabrics, embroidered textiles, and pattern-making, grading, and marker planning. It features computers, digitizers, plotters, scanners, and specialized software for fabric, fashion, and garment design. Students develop essential soft skills needed to create e-prototypes with the speed and precision demanded by today’s fast fashion industry.
Garment manufacturing involves several raw materials and many production processes, and the quality of each of them contributes to the final performance of the garment. To achieve expected performance of the garment, the specification of the raw materials and parameters of the processes have to be stringently maintained through various testing methods. The laboratory is well equipped to hone the students in the testing and analysis of fibre, yarn, fabric, garments and trims as per various standards followed in the textile and garment industry. Beesley’s balance, fibre fineness tester, twist tester, yarn/fabric/seam strength tester, yarn evenness tester and various fabric testing equipment like tearing, thickness, stiffness, crease recovery bursting, abrasion, pilling, air permeability are some of the major equipment in the laboratory.
