Department of Fashion Technology Report on Conceptualization Creation and Application of Textile Design(CCATD)
Three days textile designworkshopon “Conceptualization Creation and Application of Textile Design”was organised by Department of Fashion Technology, KCG college of Technology, Chennai from19/08/2019 to21/08/2019. 03 external participants from SRM University and 11 of our FT department II& I year students and faculty from FT department participated in the workshop. Mr.Subash Kumar Chirayil, textile design consultant from Bangalore and Mr. G. Hari Krishnan, freelance textile designer and natural dye expert from Kanchipuramextended their hands as resource persons for this workshop.
On the first day of workshop, Dr.V. BhanuRekha, Associate Professor&HoD i/C- FT Department, addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of CCATD workshop.In first session,Mr.Subash Kumar, elaborated on the concepts of design research and identifying the inspirationsfrom nature and from around us.He also explained on the design principles to be considered while identifying an inspiration. He also explained about the various design bases such as horizontal, vertical , diamond , ogee , wavy /zig-zagand all over with examples from the commercial fabric designs.
Further on design styling types like choppy, ikat, digital abstract, linear, painterly, patterned, stippling/wornout, stitched/kaantha, lacing/crochet, pixelated, abstract, embroidered, block printed, embossed, stroked, silhouette etc.were discussed by the expert.
In Second day of workshop, practical session started from extracting design elements from the selected inspiration of individual participants. Design development or styling the motif and orientation. Motif development by manual and digital methods was explained by the expert along with repeat setting was also taught by expert.
In third day of the workshop, designer set the repeat settings of designs through by software edit tool were all demonstrated by the expert. Our students set their design repeats according to the instructions obtained from expert. At finally all prepared designed samples were cut as stencil sheets. Nylon screen frame and printing table were prepared by Mr. G. Hari Krishnan, Freelance textile designer with his help printing dyestuffs wereprepared in the department. Along with the help of ProfessorDr.R.G. Pannerselvam, students initiated printing process with their developed designs.

At the end of session, KCG college academic dean, Associate dean and HoD members of various departments visited the workshop. They appreciated the on-going activity of design developments initiative. Our Principal Dr.G. Prabhakaran praised the performance of our students in this initiative and appreciated by distributing the participation certificates.

The session started with an introduction of Ms ShanthiRajan, the Resource Person.
The Principal – Dr G. Prabhakaran honoured the Guest with a memento.
Ms ShanthiRajan started the session by emphasizing the importance of Social and Emotional Intelligence. The speaker focussed onthe need of understanding and identifying the emotions and to take control of the emotions. She spoke about anger and how it could destroy the self and others. Theimportance of listening and communication, how we receive information and process the information and its impact on the relationships was spoken too…
The necessity of adapting to change, how attitude affects the behaviour, how to assess and control our behaviour and impact of behavioural competencies on performance was told. She also touched upon stress management, personal agility and empathy.
It was conveyed that if the above mentioned aspects are taken care, Social and Emotional Intelligence is taken care, which is very important in professional and day-to-day life to maintain a good relationships with all.
The students were able go through the session along with the resource person and gain from the session. The students clarified their doubts with the resource person during the break time and gained clarity.

KCG College organizes Engenius ‘19
The third edition of Engenius 2019, an inter-school technical and cultural event, organized by KCG College of Technology, was held on 27th August 2017, drawing nearly two thousand students from 38 schools. The main objectives of the event were to spark the innovative spirit among students, and help them understand the crucial role played by engineers in the development of the world as we know it today. A blend of workshops, technical contests and cultural competitions, the emphasis of the mega event was on learning while having fun!
Workshops were held in areas like aeromodellingrobotics, mobile applications, virtual driving, 3D printing, and fashion designing. Competitions ranged from oratory, music, danceand fashion to quizzes, paper presentations, science fair and coding contests. It was a reflection of the KCG College’s core belief that holistic education holds the key to success.
A drone show and display of more than 40 innovative projects provided further opportunities for students to enhance their knowledge. “It gave me a chance to interact with staff of various engineering departments and understand the many projects that were displayed. My visit to the Department of Aeronautical Engineering was very useful and I enjoyed the drone show,” said one enthusiastic participant.“Every year we send our students to participate in KCG Engenius as it motivates them to compete with students of other schools in a healthy environment,” said a teacher accompanying students from her school.
Television anchor and presenter Manimegalai was the special guest at the valedictory function. She gave away prizes to the various winners to resounding cheers.In her words it was “awesamistically, fantabulously, amazingly, fantastically, marvellous evening with students at KCG College of Technology”. In his address Principal Dr G Prabhakaran stressed the need for students to take part in such events to enhance their knowledge, and develop their leadership skills.
Nellai Nadar School bagged the overall championship. Elated at hearing the news, Mr Julius Caesar, Principal of the school, said, “Inter-school competitions like Engenuis ‘19 play a vital role in contributing to the holistic grooming of the students and provide a platform for the total and integral formation of the students.”

Technical Talk to Motivate the Students for Placement Drives organized by KCG Women’s Coding Club

They gave an inspiring talk on how they started their career. They emphasized the importance of self learning and continuous learning. Mr Deepak shared his placement experience and gave a brief insight on different programming languages and also discussed how to write a Resume. Mr Dinesh started the session by asking the students to write a program and explained the different ways to solve the problem. Ms. Maria Rashmi shared her Industry experience and also discussed about the Infosys Placement Process.
The session was an interactive one our students had many question on them. Few were listed over here:
1. What are the certification courses, how this will be useful for placement drive?
2. How to prepare a Resume?
3. How to select a course for higher studies?
4. How to improve their coding skills?
5. Is CGPA performs a major role in placement?

A few non CSE students wanted to learn basics of Programming, have planned to arrange one session for this in the next working Saturday.
