Ingenuis 17 held on January 7, 2017 was a forum for school student to express their talent and creativity. It witnessed a fine balance of exciting competitions, workshops in some of the new frontiers of knowledge, a science project challenge, and a spectacular air show for entertainment. Over thousand students from 38 city schools participated enthusiastically.
The fifth edition of Hindustan Young Leaders’ Conference (HYLC) 2017 which has, ever since its inception, signified high quality debate and reporting, was held from 27 January to January 29 2017, at KCG College of Technology. Organized in collaboration with United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, HYLCwith its vision of “Empowering the Nation Builders of Tomorrow” brought together outstanding young scholars from different parts of India to build crucial leadership skills in a global context.
National Conference on Advances in Chemical Sciences and Technology-17(NCACST-17)
A two-day national conference on “Advances in Chemical Sciences and Technology– (NCACST-17)”was organized by the Centre for Material Science in the Department of Science & Humanities of KCG College of Technology, Chennai during February 2ndand 3rd, 2017.
The objective of this Conference is to discuss and understand the recent developments in wide areas of chemical sciences. As well, intend of this Conference is to promote the students to undertake multidisciplinary research in chemistry. The Conference will provide a platform for UG, PG, research scholars and faculty of chemistry to interact with the eminent scientists and professors of repute across the nation.
The inaugural ceremony of the Conference on “Advances in Chemical Sciences and Technology (NCACST-17)” commenced on 2nd, February, 2017 at KCG College Chennai with prayer, followed Kuthuvelakku lightening. Prof Sivaramakrishna Das, S&H formally greeted the gathering and the Principal Dr. G. Prabhakaran delivered the presidential address. The Chief Guest of the function was Prof. Dr. Tech. Murthy Chavali Yadav, Dean of International affairs, VFTSR University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. He made the audience aware of the science academies. He highlighted the importance of advancement in chemical sciences and its impact on technological applications. He stressed the value of research in chemistry and encouraged the participants to take up chemistry as research career.

The inauguration of a student chapter of EWB – India at KCG college of Technology took place on 4th February, 2017. The chief guest, Mr. Raja Manimaran- along with his colleagues – graced us with his presence and lighted the ceremonial kuthuvizhakku at the inaugural function which took place in the Digital library.
As always, the function began with a hymn, praising the almighty and seeking his guidance and blessings. Then Dr. G.Prabhakaran, Principal, welcomed the esteemed guests on the dais. He then encouraged the students to make use of the wonderful opportunities in such outreach programmes. After that the Director of EWB-India, Mr. Raja Manimaran, Safety Officer ISRO, addressed the gathering.
Mr. Raja Manimaran highlighted the goals of EWB and role of EWB-KCG chapter . He talked about ways in which the students can prosper in their education and profession. He encouraged EWB members to think out of the box and help the community with their lateral thinking.
After the rousing speech, Mr. Raja Manimaran officially inaugurated the EWB student chapter by releasing the official certificate.
“ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS”
- Student chapter of EWB – India, EWB-KCG, at KCG college of Technology was inaugurated on 4th February, 2017 with 100 student members. The chief guest, Mr. Raja Manimaran, President , EWB-Chennai, along with his colleagues – graced us with his presence and lighted the ceremonial kuthuvizhakku at the inaugural function and handed over the Chapter certificate to the office bearers. He encouraged EWB members to think out of the box and help the community with their lateral thinking.Mr. Gokul, EWB member and ISRO scientist, Past president, EWB-Chennai, presented report on the activities that were under way by EWB – Chennai chapter. Mr. Karunakaran, Life member EWB, Project director ASSIT-ASIA, highlighted the benefits of being EWB member and encouraged the students to take up entrepreneurship.
- On 23rd February, Mr. Anantharajan, CEO, EWB-India addressed EWB-KCG members and shared the information on the functioning of EWB chapter the responsibilities of the office bearers. He also said that the chapter operations include training the members on project management , fund raising and sustaining the project.
- Members of EWB-KCG attended CHENNAI WATER SUMMIT-2017 at AC Tech, Anna University, on 22nd March, 2017. This was conducted to mark World Water Day. This gave an exposure to the students on Inter-linking the rivers, Water for future Chennai and how to protect and provide safe water to the next generation.
- A project proposal on Solar Pump has been sent to EWB- India and EWB –Chennai for seed money . The beneficiaries of this project will be Anaikkum Karangal, Chennai, a home for homeless children and women.

Intel Mou Signing ceremony
MoU between Intel Corporation and KCG College of Technology was signed on 7.2.17 to train our students and faculty on IoT product development.
Intel workhop on Intel Galileo
A workshop on Intel Galileo Gen 2 board, held between 07.02.17 to 10.02.17. There was a brief explanation about Intel Gallileo Gen 2 board. The explanation included hardware construction and procedure for connecting it. The basics of Arduino and simple programs were taught as apart of the programme. The following day was a class on sensors in IOT. In 3rd day program in python to enable Wifi was taught. The last day was evaluation day and the students were asked to pitch the ideas.
The workshop was attended by 10 faculty members and 60 students . Fourteen projects were presented and they will be developed by the teams and presented.
The project presentation was reviewed every week.
Consultancy Work
Discussion on Consultancy work in software development with MELSS is in Progress. Mr.Sankar, Associate Professor, CSE Dept., is identified to take up this work.
e-CELL
An awareness programme cum workshop on social entrepreneurship – start a business and change lives on 28.03.17 with the support of Canara Bank under women empowerment. Practicing /teaching Social entrepreneurship were the resource persons for this programme.
