World Mental Health Day 2022

The World Mental Health Day (WMHD) is observed on 10th October. The overall objective of the WMHD is to raise awareness of Mental Health around the world and to mobilize the efforts in support of Mental Health. WHO announced the theme for the year 2022 as “Make Mental Health and well-being for all a Global priority”.

KCG Tech is a part of Rotary, NCC, NSS, Y’s Men Club and other Social Organizations and do many CSR activities for the social cause.

COVID has created a great impact on people’s life. Many lost their jobs and are financially affected. This has created great stress in people’s life and are mentally affected.In view of the World Mental Health Day on 10th October, 2022 KCG Techconducted a Cyclothonon 8th October, 2022 between 6.30 am – 7.30 am from KCG College of Technology – Sholinganallur Junction – KCG College of Technology, to raise an awareness on Mental Health. KCG Tech students rode on their cycles and created an awareness. They had placards on their cycles which had slogans on Mental Health,which helped people to understand better about Mental Health and to seek help at the earliest to live a happy life.

“Mental Health and Physical Health are interlinked. Mental health is to be taken care to live a happy and healthy life”.

Department of Information Technology hadconducted anAwareness Program on Cyber Security on 13th October 2022 at S13 Seminar hall. Speakers were Dr M D Aksam, Senior Data Analyst and MrVigneshwaran Ramakrishnan Manjulah, Data Analyst from Cyber Security Works, Chennai.The session started with a welcome address by Dr J Frank Vijay HoD/IT, KCG College of Technology. Students from CSE and IThad attended the session. First speakerMrVigneshwaran Ramakrishnan Manjulahstarted with a formal introduction about Cyber Security.Then moved to different aspects of security with Industry terms.NextspeakerDr M D Aksamgave a brief description about trends in Cyber Security and its scope. In the questionnaire session MsNeena from 3rd Year IT asked about block chain security and its future scope. Other student Dhivyabharathi from 3rd Year IT asked different certification courses in Cyber Security.The session came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by MsAnju A, AP/IT, KCG College of Technology.The session was more informative and useful.

A Report on Mental Health in School Students

A session for School Teachers

In continuation of observing the World Mental Health Day (WMHD) on KCG Campus, a half a day session on the topic “Mental Health in School Students”, was conducted for school teachers at F14. Teachers from various schools attended the program on 29th October, 2022 from 9.30 –1.00 pm. The overall objective is to help teachers to identify and respond towards the mental health needs in their studentsand identifying the suicidal tendencies in students, if any and offer/ seek experts help.

The resource person Ms Uma Suresh, Mental Health Counsellor & Psychotherapist spoke on identifying the academic/personal issues, mental health issues and respond on time and offer support in case of need. She also said that if it’s beyond the competency of the teachers, then they can reach out to the Principal / parents and seek experts help and support at the earliest.

Prof. Dr K Raman, MD Psychiatry, Saveetha Medical College spoke on the signs and symptoms of, when students can become suicidal, how to deal with them, when to maintain confidentiality and to breach the confidentiality in case of emergencies with case scenarios, which made the audience to understand better.

The speakers had the participants on their edge with an urge to learn. It was an interactive session. The participants had a good take away for their students.

Technical contest- #inc Crack The Code

Women’s Coding Club had organized a Technical Contest “#inc Crack the Code” on 29th October 2022 at Watts Humphrey Laboratory. Students from AIDS, CSE,EEE and IT had registered for the event. Around 30 students had participated for the contest. First place was bagged by Shyamily R and Sangeetha D of 3rd Year CSE, Second place was bagged by Hemapriya A and Jeffry S of 2nd year IT, Thanusri R and Sobia R of 3rd Year CSE got 3rd place in this contest. Winners were felicitated with cash prizes by Ms.Adline Freeda, AP/IT. The event ended up with a vote of thanks by Ms Anju A, AP/IT, Women’s Coding Club Coordinator, KCG College of Technology.
