The “National Seminar on Artificial Intelligence in Construction” was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. B. Sivarama Sarma (Head R & D, L & T Construction, Chennai) and Guest of Honour Mr. Rohith Nathan Rajagopal IPS (Superintendent of Police, Railways Chennai) along with our respected Principal, KCG College of Technology and HoD, Department of Civil Engineering. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour gave a brief introduction about the current trends of Artificial Intelligence and the necessity of the present budding Engineers to learn it.

The speaker started with explaining the basics of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ (AI) and proceeded with the assessment procedure of the building damage after the disaster using GIS and AI. Application of the AI in the disaster assessment were the further topics discussed in the session. Several case studies based on the previous disasters occurred in India and other countries, and the possible ways that would be managed using AI were discussed in the session. |

Stating with the five processes of project management the speaker explained what is risk, its types and the analysis methods. The process of risk management and the four key factors of risk and measures to overcome those were described in a very interesting way to the participants. Before entering in to the AI part of the risk management, the procedures to perform the quantitative risk analysis were clearly explained which will be the vital part to implement the AI in risk management. |

The current predominant application of 3D printing is in the Mechanical and Aeronautical Industry. The speaker of the session showed the vision of the application of the 3D printing in the construction industry called as ‘3D concrete printing’. The robotic based 3D printing of concrete when joins with the artificial intelligence of mapping the given template model of a structure and the printing fabrication control of the prototype. Miraculous structures with out of plane symmetricity are possible with this 3D printing and AI venture, were the AI analyse the possible non-confirmative of the stability of the structure and prepare the suitable consistency of the material and section of the structure. |

| Artificial Intelligence in Block Chain technology and BIM and the increased potential in Building Construction (off-site activities) were discussed in the session. For example, if a main contractor completes all their current tasks, on time and within, or on budget, this information can be verified within the block chain for all users to comment on and agree. One other important topic discussed was ‘Digital Twins’ application in construction with ‘Physical space’ – ‘Virtual Space’ examples. |

Voting Awareness Campaign at KCG College of Technology on 16-04-2019
As a citizen of democratic India, it is the right of every citizen to vote.Youth constitutes to the majority of the population in India. So to create an awareness of voting amongst the students Poster Making and Signing Campaignwere organised at the college campus.
The students participated enthusiastically in the Poster Making Event and Prizes were distributed.

ABOUT CARBON ZERO CHALLENGE :
Carbon Zero Challenge (CZC) is a competition held by IIT madras that aims to trigger novel ideas towards developing carbon neutral systems to serve major sectors which are plagued by energy and environmental challenges. The thematic areas are;Agriculture, Industries, Transportation systems, Urban Areas & Cities, and Water &Waste management. The grand challenge posed to the competing teams was to develop a grid free /alternative system which is economically viable, socially acceptable, environment friendly, and easily replicable in multiple areas. The challenge is to understand the energy needs of these sectors and develop a sustainable green energy alternative by combination of one or more renewable energy sources.
From over 1000 entries nationally , Team MAGMA has been shortlisted for the final 24 teams to be selected to present their project prototype at the demo day of the competition.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION :
MAGMA stands for “ Multi- functional Agro Gantry Machine Assembly”.
It is an electrically powered agricultural machine that can help farmers with agricultural operations like tilling, sowing seeds etc.
This project aims to offer a cheaper and cleaner alternative to the modern day tractor. Majority of the farmers in India own land areas less than one Hectare and cannot afford heavy duty machines like tractors and rely on manual / animal labor. This project is intended to cater the needs of these farmers and is designed for small fields.
It consists of the main gantry frame assembly which is driven by electrical motors powered by an on board battery pack.
Different ” agricultural modules” for different purposes( seed drill, tiller etc) can be attached as per the need .
The main concept we are aiming for in this product is“modularity”, where the farmer can “choose” the modules he wants for his field ( according to what he is farming)and fit modules that are tailor made for him/her to the base gantry frame.
DEMO DAY
The demo day was held at IIT Madras from June 5th 2019 to June 7th 2019 where the finalist teams arrived with their project and presented them in their respective stalls.
Our team was visited by various important dignitaries and received very positive as well as critical feedback about our project and it’s path to commercialization and entrepreneurship. The team also received interests from potential investors and entrepreneurs and shared contact details for future communication.
Department of Fashion Technology Report on celebration of National Handloom day
Celebration of National Handloom daywas jointly organised by Department of Fashion Technology, KCG college of Technology and Department of Fashion Design and Art of Hindustan University,Chennai on 07/08/2019. In Hindustan University at school of fashion design and arts department, our faculty Dr.R.G. Panneerselvam, delivered the special lecture about national handloom day and its importance. He insisted that the fashion technocrats shouldpatronage the handloom weavers and their products. He also deliberated on various ways to develop the marketing strategies in frontof fashion and designing students’ community. The stage was set by the students with the various varieties of sarees draped innovatively on the dummies.
Handloom Day Awareness program at FT Department of KCG College of Technology
In the afternoon session, Department of Fashion Technology, KCG conducted an awareness program on handloom for the students of Hindustan International School, Karapakkam. Nearly 50-60 students participated in the awareness program. All the faculty members handled the small sessions about handloom and its economic importance, possible supports to the handloom weavers were discussed in the forum. It all extended from 2.15 pm to 3.30 pm. The students got awareness of the handloom weaver’s tireless work and the skill required by seeing a demo of weaving process on the loom. They also tried the weaving process themselves. All the students were asked to give their small contribution to handloom weavers through purchase of handlooms and by spreading the word about handlooms splendour and the hard work of handloom weavers to their family and friends. Students were requested to have atleast one set of handloom attire in their wardrobe.
As a mark of respect of the celebration, Department of Fashion Technology insisted the faculty members of KCG College of Technology, to wear handloom sarees on national handloom day.
Department of Fashion Technology Report on Conceptualization Creation and Application of Textile Design(CCATD)
Three days textile designworkshopon “Conceptualization Creation and Application of Textile Design”was organised by Department of Fashion Technology, KCG college of Technology, Chennai from19/08/2019 to21/08/2019. 03 external participants from SRM University and 11 of our FT department II& I year students and faculty from FT department participated in the workshop. Mr.Subash Kumar Chirayil, textile design consultant from Bangalore and Mr. G. Hari Krishnan, freelance textile designer and natural dye expert from Kanchipuramextended their hands as resource persons for this workshop.
On the first day of workshop, Dr.V. BhanuRekha, Associate Professor&HoD i/C- FT Department, addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of CCATD workshop.In first session,Mr.Subash Kumar, elaborated on the concepts of design research and identifying the inspirationsfrom nature and from around us.He also explained on the design principles to be considered while identifying an inspiration. He also explained about the various design bases such as horizontal, vertical , diamond , ogee , wavy /zig-zagand all over with examples from the commercial fabric designs.
Further on design styling types like choppy, ikat, digital abstract, linear, painterly, patterned, stippling/wornout, stitched/kaantha, lacing/crochet, pixelated, abstract, embroidered, block printed, embossed, stroked, silhouette etc.were discussed by the expert.
In Second day of workshop, practical session started from extracting design elements from the selected inspiration of individual participants. Design development or styling the motif and orientation. Motif development by manual and digital methods was explained by the expert along with repeat setting was also taught by expert.
In third day of the workshop, designer set the repeat settings of designs through by software edit tool were all demonstrated by the expert. Our students set their design repeats according to the instructions obtained from expert. At finally all prepared designed samples were cut as stencil sheets. Nylon screen frame and printing table were prepared by Mr. G. Hari Krishnan, Freelance textile designer with his help printing dyestuffs wereprepared in the department. Along with the help of ProfessorDr.R.G. Pannerselvam, students initiated printing process with their developed designs.
At the end of session, KCG college academic dean, Associate dean and HoD members of various departments visited the workshop. They appreciated the on-going activity of design developments initiative. Our Principal Dr.G. Prabhakaran praised the performance of our students in this initiative and appreciated by distributing the participation certificates.

The session started with an introduction of Ms ShanthiRajan, the Resource Person.
The Principal – Dr G. Prabhakaran honoured the Guest with a memento.
Ms ShanthiRajan started the session by emphasizing the importance of Social and Emotional Intelligence. The speaker focussed onthe need of understanding and identifying the emotions and to take control of the emotions. She spoke about anger and how it could destroy the self and others. Theimportance of listening and communication, how we receive information and process the information and its impact on the relationships was spoken too…
The necessity of adapting to change, how attitude affects the behaviour, how to assess and control our behaviour and impact of behavioural competencies on performance was told. She also touched upon stress management, personal agility and empathy.
It was conveyed that if the above mentioned aspects are taken care, Social and Emotional Intelligence is taken care, which is very important in professional and day-to-day life to maintain a good relationships with all.
The students were able go through the session along with the resource person and gain from the session. The students clarified their doubts with the resource person during the break time and gained clarity.
