KCG College of technology along with Aspire For Her (AFH) organised a seminar on “Career guidance” the Resource Person being Mr. R Srivatsan – Head Supply Chain Management, Zaimus Group, on 18 March 2023 between 10.00 am to 12.00 noon. The seminar focused on the challenges faced by mechanical engineers and the possible career paths available to explore and choose from. The program started with the welcome address by Ashwin Venugopal, Final year Mechanical department and the introduction of the speaker by Mr. Jesudass, Thomas, Head of Mechanical department.
Mr. Srivatsan introduced himself once again before speaking about the challenges faced and the current opportunities that we can look forward to. He spoke a little on the emerging trends and how IT services have shaped the GDP of our country and the difference between today’s GDP and that a few decades ago. The speaker disclosed how life is not a linear path and health and wealth compound over time given one explores themselves, finds what they are good at and elevate the way they think about work. Finding one’s sweet spot requires being great at it, loving it, making sure you are paid for it and that the world needs it. He mentioned how thinking about salary as a first step is a poor way of thinking and choosing a domain that you understand or one that excites you is much more sustainable in the long run.

The guest went on to talk about several examples, some from first hand experience and others from friends about the harsh realities and opportunities that the industries provide, mainly giving insight on what almost every employer looks for in candidates and the fundamental truths of a job as a fresher. He mentioned how developing hard and soft skills to be ready for work is highly relevant to almost all employers. On that note, Mr Srivatsan suggested that we know our subject, know the world around us, know ourself, visit industries, get a mentor, and most importantly, start today and keep going! He finally suggested we read a few books of his choice to understand and define our expectations more clearly.

The seminar ended with a Feedback from students of each year, and a vote of thanks, by Ms.Revathi, Student Counsellor.

Cloud Computing often referred to as “the cloud”, in simple terms means storing or accessing your data and programs over the internet rather than your own hard drive. Everything nowadays is moved to the cloud, running in the cloud, accessed from the cloud or may be stored in the cloud.

A Seminar on Cloud Security was organized by the Department of ECE under the Alumni talk series on 18.03.2023. The topics of the seminar included Cloud Computing Building Blocks, Deployment models, Cloud computing advantages and its Benefits and Mitigating the Risk Involved in Cloud Computing.

The Resource person details are as follows:
Ms. Swetha Karthik Babu (ECE Alumna 2005-09 batch)
Security Engineer,
Morgan Stanley,
Washington, USA

The Seminar was arranged in S13 Seminar Hall from 10 AM to 11 AM. The II year A section and III year students of ECE were the participants. The session was very interactive. There was a Question & Answer session were many students got their doubts cleared about Higher studies and job opportunities in Cloud security. The resource person also had shared her experience and hurdles she went through in the course of her career.

I thank the Management and the Principal for allowing us to organize this seminar which went on to be a fruitful one.
