Topic: Forging Leadership in Technology
KCG College of Technology in collaboration with Aspire For Her (AFH), conducted a session for our students onthe topic “Forging Leadership in Technology” on 26th August, 2022. Ms Priya Mohan Dass, Networks& Operations Manager, AFH represented the AFH team.
Dr Krishna Murthy, HOD – CSE , KCG College of Technology gave the Welcome Address and Dr Frank Vijay, HOD – IT, KCG College of Technology introduced the speaker.
Ms Ashima Purohit, Director of Engineering Fresh Works, addressed our students on the topic. It was a great interactive session for our students to know more about Leadership Management. She touched upon communication skills and listening abilities. She also said that a leader is the person who steers the whole team and the leader has to take the responsibility of the result of the team work and at times it is OK to fail, as failures also teaches lesson.
Our students had questions as how to handle criticism, lay-off, gaining trust of the team members and many more. Ms Ashima very patiently handled the questions and answered them out, from her own real life experiences and work place experience, which made the students to connect themselves better with the speaker. The session was more informative and lively.
The session came to an end with Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms D Revathy, Student Counsellor, KCG College of Technology.
Women’s Coding Club conducted a Workshop on Selenium –Introduction to Testing Tools on 27th August 2022 at Steve Jobs Laboratory. Ms R Adline Freeda, AP/IT, KCG College of Technology gave the Welcome Address. Around 25 students attended the session. First, speaker started with what is testing and introduction about the software testing with its types, advantage and disadvantages. She gave a detailed description about Selenium- automation tool. Then started with hands-on session where students used selenium automation tool for testing web browser. During the practical session, speaker helped the students to download the required tools for the session and implemented the selenium tool in eclipse using java. Finally speaker concluded with a few tips for the students to get knowledge about the role of a Software tester. The session came to an end with Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Anju A, AP/IT, KCG College of Technology. The session was more informative and useful.

A Report on World Suicide Prevention Day Marathon organised by KCG College of Technology & Y’s Service Club of Chennai Karapakkam
“Life is priceless; KCG Tech values it”.
Every year the World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on 10th September. Suicide is becoming a social problem. Each year 800,000 people take their own lives. According to a latest report, in 2021 roughly 93, 580 died by committing suicide in India. After COVID the suicidal rates are on the higher side. By raising awareness, reducing the stigma around suicide and encouraging well-informed action, we can reduce instances of suicide around us.
Indian Association for Suicide Prevention and World Health Organisation has announced the theme for the year 2022 as “Creating Hope through Action”. To create hope through action, KCG College of Technology along with Y’s Service Club of Chennai Karapakkam, organised a 15 kms Marathon from KCG College of Technology, Karapakkam to Edward Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar. The KCG Tech students, staff and general public ran for the cause. The entire registration amount is given to SNEHA Suicide Prevention Centre.
Mr Anand MC, Director, SNEHA Suicide Prevention centre addressed the audience at the Elliot’s Beach on Suicide Prevention. He said that, “Suicide is a cry for help and the person do not really want to commit suicide. At the moment when the suicidal person is heard, given due care and support a life can be saved”. Prizeswere distributed to encourage the Marathon participants and pamphlets on suicide prevention were distributed to the public.

Students from AIDS, CSE and IT had attended the session. First, speaker started with the scope of Web Developer in industry. Then started with hands-on session where students used basic HTML tags and SQL query to connect with Database. During the practical session, speaker helped the students to download the required tools for the Web Development. Finally speaker concluded with importance of skill development and Job opportunities in industry. The session came to an end with Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Anju A, AP/IT, KCG College of Technology. The session was more informative and useful.
