KCG College organizes Engenius ‘19
The third edition of Engenius 2019, an inter-school technical and cultural event, organized by KCG College of Technology, was held on 27th August 2017, drawing nearly two thousand students from 38 schools. The main objectives of the event were to spark the innovative spirit among students, and help them understand the crucial role played by engineers in the development of the world as we know it today. A blend of workshops, technical contests and cultural competitions, the emphasis of the mega event was on learning while having fun!
Workshops were held in areas like aeromodellingrobotics, mobile applications, virtual driving, 3D printing, and fashion designing. Competitions ranged from oratory, music, danceand fashion to quizzes, paper presentations, science fair and coding contests. It was a reflection of the KCG College’s core belief that holistic education holds the key to success.
A drone show and display of more than 40 innovative projects provided further opportunities for students to enhance their knowledge. “It gave me a chance to interact with staff of various engineering departments and understand the many projects that were displayed. My visit to the Department of Aeronautical Engineering was very useful and I enjoyed the drone show,” said one enthusiastic participant.“Every year we send our students to participate in KCG Engenius as it motivates them to compete with students of other schools in a healthy environment,” said a teacher accompanying students from her school.
Television anchor and presenter Manimegalai was the special guest at the valedictory function. She gave away prizes to the various winners to resounding cheers.In her words it was “awesamistically, fantabulously, amazingly, fantastically, marvellous evening with students at KCG College of Technology”. In his address Principal Dr G Prabhakaran stressed the need for students to take part in such events to enhance their knowledge, and develop their leadership skills.
Nellai Nadar School bagged the overall championship. Elated at hearing the news, Mr Julius Caesar, Principal of the school, said, “Inter-school competitions like Engenuis ‘19 play a vital role in contributing to the holistic grooming of the students and provide a platform for the total and integral formation of the students.”

Technical Talk to Motivate the Students for Placement Drives organized by KCG Women’s Coding Club

They gave an inspiring talk on how they started their career. They emphasized the importance of self learning and continuous learning. Mr Deepak shared his placement experience and gave a brief insight on different programming languages and also discussed how to write a Resume. Mr Dinesh started the session by asking the students to write a program and explained the different ways to solve the problem. Ms. Maria Rashmi shared her Industry experience and also discussed about the Infosys Placement Process.
The session was an interactive one our students had many question on them. Few were listed over here:
1. What are the certification courses, how this will be useful for placement drive?
2. How to prepare a Resume?
3. How to select a course for higher studies?
4. How to improve their coding skills?
5. Is CGPA performs a major role in placement?
Plan for Next Session#3:
A few non CSE students wanted to learn basics of Programming, have planned to arrange one session for this in the next working Saturday.

On September 14th 2019, an 8 hour workshop on Cloud Literacy Day – ICT Academy, Powered by AWS Educate was organised at KCG College of Technology by the Principal – Dr. G. Prabhakaran, Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department – Dr. M. Krishnamurthy, Head of the Information Technology Department Dr Frank Vijay and Associate Dean Dr. Deivasundari.
Principal shared his bright ideas on cloud technology and the importance of it with respect to industry standards. Dr M. Krishnamurthy Head – CSE, Enlightened students the Purpose of this event being conducted for First & Second Years and the Objectives of this Event were cited by him. He also emphasised students to learn the cloud technology skills to make them on par with industry standards. Associate Dean too briefed the gathering about the Importance of these Add on Courses & Events and explained the Relationship with ICT Academy. Last but Not Least Dr Frank Vijay concluded the inaugural of the event with vote of thanks.
To enable students to learn cloud technology skills, ICT Academy in association with AWS Educate is conducting Cloud Literacy Month 2019 aiming at making its member institutions to organise a day long CLOUD LITERACY DAY within their institution during the month of September/October 2019.
Cloud Literacy Day is intended to induce self-learning and introduce basic cloud technology skills to all students. The program is organised exclusively for all member institutions of ICT Academy across India, where the students learn the modules online through self-instructed videos and exercises and prove their cloud learning skills. By successfully completing the course, they will earn their first AWS Inventor Badge & Cloud Computing 101 Badge.
Introductory self learning course explores how computers work and Internet infrastructure, cloud computing models and AWS fundamentals. Throughout the course, students will expand their knowledge of cloud computing through narrative-based scenarios and short interactive tasks. Students will also survey cloud careers and discuss industry demand for cloud skills.
Badge criteria:
Complete and pass the Fundamental Cloud Skills on the Cloud Literacy Day at your campus.
Course Objectives:

- Describe the cloud computing model.
- Describe examples of infrastructure as a service.
- Describe examples of platform as a service.

Total number of Students Benefited by this Programme is 200 Plus, clubbing both first & Second year of CSE & IT Departments. The students gained a lot of knowledge about the basics of computer, cyber security, data analytics, programming, impacts of computing, etc. Finally I would like to thank the management for creating this learning opportunity to the student of CSE and IT.
