The World Mental Health Day is observed on 10th October. The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise an awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.

The WFMH President Dr Ingrid Daniels has announced the theme for World Mental Health Day 2021 as ‘Mental Health in an Unequal World’. Inequalities due to race and ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity, and the lack of respect for human rights, including for people living with mental health conditions. Such inequalities have an impact on people’s mental health.

The COVID 19 pandemic has affected the physical and mental health of many people all over the world. It has further highlighted the effects of inequality on health.  The pandemic has and will continue to affect people in many ways through infection and illness, sometimes death bringing bereavement to surviving family members; through the economic impact, with job losses and continued job insecurity; and with the physical distancing that can lead to social isolation.

KCG College along with Y’s Men Club, Engineers without borders, NCC, NSS and as a part of Fit India Movement, organized a Mental Wellness Awareness Campaign and Cylothonon 10th October 2021 as a part of WMHD following the COVID protocols. The awareness campaign aimed at educating the community and school students on Mental Health which was launched by Dr P DeivaSundari – Principal, KCG College of Technology. The campaign provided an opportunity to come together, act and ensure mental health for all.

“Mental Illness is nothing to be ashamed of, but stigma and bias shame us all”
