KCG MUN CLUB “THINKING ON YOUR FEET”
Feb 24 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

The KCG MUN club organized a communication skill workshop “Thinking on Your feet” on 24th February 2018. The resource person was DTM Gautam Sharma, Founder of Sanskaar Acafemy, and an award winning speaker and trainer.

The session opened with Dr Anita Manuel, Dean (SA) welcoming the gathering and explaining the objective of the workshop. It was to equip students with simple techniques that would help them overcome their fear of public speaking and also to help them think quickly and respond clearly during an interview.

The speaker began by recounting his personal experiences as to how he developed his own communication skills, which helped the students to relate to the speaker. First he pointed out that one needed content to be able to speak. Though this only counted for 7% of the impact without content, there could be no delivery. Body Language and voice modulation were the other two components that comprised the effectiveness of our communication.

He spoke about different communication styles like passive, aggressive, passive aggressive, manipulative and assertive. He also had relevant activities for the students to participate and understand the communication styles and for the student to understand how the knowledge of the content and familiarity will lead to better communication. He also enriched the students with some tips as how to face an interview – before the interview, during the interview and after the interview. He ended with a Q & A session, where he clearned many doubts raised by students.

One of the club members delivered the Vote of Thanks. Written feedback was collected, which was very positive. Participation certificates were issued to the students who attended.

KCG WOMEN’S CODING CLUB is an exclusive club for women to learn Coding and Associated Skills. It is a platform to create an awareness and interest among girl students on programming. As an initiative, we have conducted a Bulid2Learn session for the girl students on 2nd March 2018 at Watts Humphrey Lab. The session was handled by Ms. Bhavani an alumnus of our college, presently working as a Product Developer at Focus InfoTech and Ms. Krthika also from Focus Infotech. On the first session, students were introduced to the concept of turtle in python. Using turtle they were taught to draw lines, shapes and eventually various sceneries. The students were made to apply their mathematical knowledge and they were also enabled to think in a logical manner. After learning session, the students were asked to prepare a scenery as the theme for the competition Creative Colors that was conducted on 8th March at Steve Jobs Lab. Around 60 students had registered for the competition and participated with much dedication and enthusiasm. All the students applied their knowledge in creating beautiful scenarios with several themes for the competition. They also explained the hidden meaning behind the scenes and proved their technical abilities. Mr.Dorai Thodla and Dr. Sumathi Poobal Vice principal had judged the demonstration. All the competitors presented their work with much excitement. This, in turn, channelized their knowledge and energy towards becoming active participator.

The main objectives of KCG Women’s Coding Club are to improve computational power, logical thinking of students and motivate the students to participate in various events in and outside the college. We also want to help girls fearlessly explore their idea and create the next generation applications. The long-term goal of our Club is we want this club to become a movement to empower more and more girl students.

Dr. Sumathi Poobal Vice-Principal inaugurated KCG Women’s Coding Club by launching club’s official website during Women’s Day Celebration. Women’s Day Celebration, 2018
Mar 8 @ 9:30 am – 1:00 pm

8th March, 2018: KCG College of technology organised the Women’s Day Celebration at the seminar hall at 2 pm on the 8th of March, 2018.The Speaker for the day was Mr Hafiz Khan from EZone India. All heads of departments as well as students were part of the program.

Ms. Aida Jones preceded over the program, which began with the launch of the website for Women’s Coding Club by our Vice Principal, Dr. Sumathi Poobal with the help of Ms. Anju, the coordinator of the club. The WCC club is a new initiative taken to encourage and strengthen girls in the field of programming.

The second part of the program was the highlight of the celebration. Mr Khan conducted a highly interactive and enjoyable session. He conducted a challenge called Glass Walk. This challenge required a volunteer to walk a few steps on broken glass pieces. The students hesitated initially as the presumption of hurting oneself prevented them from volunteering. Ms. Aishwarya of second year was however ready to take the initiative and she was the first to complete the challenge successfully. After watching her fearless performance, each and everyone in the hall, including our staff performed the challenge. It was a thrilling experience for everyone.

One of the several questions thrown at us were, “Would you be the first one to take initiative to try something new and walk on a path less trodden?” Mr Khan gave us great insight on taking up new challenges. He spoke about being open to new ideas. He went on to explain why none of us got hurt when we walked on broken glass. He therefore gave us a perfect illustration as to solving a problem by complete analysis. He encouraged us to think differently and be an initiator instead of following the band wagon.

The program ended with a vote of thanks and the singing of the national anthem. The session was a thorough learning experience.
