KCG College of Technology proudly hosted Nexathon ’25, a prestigious 24-hour national-level hackathon organised by the Departments of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Information Technology on Apr 4th and 5th, 2025. The event brought together brilliant young minds from across the country to ideate, innovate, and engineer real-world solutions to contemporary challenges.

1000 individual registrations and 300 team applications were received from all over the country, representing diverse places such as Bangalore, Kerala, Pune, Andhra, Delhi and many more. 50 teams were shortlisted for the onsite hackathon.Teams of 2–4 members were allowed. Only same-college teams were permitted; inter-department participation was allowed but inter-college teams were not.

Schedule & Logistics:

  • Round 1: Online screening submissions (PPT) by March 23, 2025.
  • Final onsite event: April 4that ~8 AM to April 5th at ~12 PM, with prize distribution immediately after judging.
  • School students’ event: April 5th.
  • Meals were provided: Lunch, Dinner, Snacks on Day 1.

  • Online PPT submission evaluated for initial selection.
  • Final live judging based on prototype, innovation, feasibility, and presentation.

WOMEN CODEATHON 7.0

A technical programming contest, Women’s Codeathon 7.0, sponsored by the Computer Society of India organized by Women’s Coding Club and Office of Alumni Affairs, was conducted for female students of KCG College of Technology, on 11th April, 2025 at KMC Auditorium.

The event commenced with a formal kick-start by Dr. AAnju, KCG Women’s Club Coordinator, and Dr. S.Muthuselvan, Head of the Department, of Information Technology, at9am. The event witnessed participation from around 100 female students across multiple departments, forming 30 teams. The contest aimed to foster logical reasoning, algorithmic thinking, and technical proficiency in various programming domains among femalestudents. The event encouraged participants to apply critical thinking and develop prototypes that addressed real-world challenges. Students successfully implemented diverse problem statements and demonstrated their functional solutions.

The expert jury was honored to include Ms. Rajeswari, a Software Engineer at CTS and a 2022 alumnus from the Department of Information Technology, whose valuable experience and insights enriched the evaluation process. The jury panel also included various faculty members, Mr. M Narendran, Mr. R Rajasekaran, and Ms. Krithikaa Venket from the department of Information Technology. The judges appreciated the students’ involvement and creativity, encouraging them to take their imagination to the next level. Students shared their experiences from the Codeathon, expressing great enthusiasm and excitement in tackling each challenge.

The program concluded with a valedictory function at 1 pm, marking the successful end of the event. The Principal,Dr. M.Muthukannan and the Head of the department of IT, Dr.S Muthuselvan, who presided over the function were formally welcomed by Dr. Babymol Kurian, coordinator of the event. The principal handed out prizes to the students. The session ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. A. Anju, WCC Coordinator.

KCG College of Technology proudly conducted a five-day Faculty Development Programme titled “AI Agents in Action: Design, Decision-Making, and Deployment”, organized by the Department of Information Technology from June 23 to 27, 2025.

This hybrid-mode FDP aimed to equip faculty members with an in-depth understanding of intelligent agents and their real-world applications. The sessions spanned critical themes such as AI agent architecture, reinforcement learning, LLM-based networks, and multi-agent systems. Distinguished speakers from academia and industry, including Mr. Saravanan Velrajan (Ginkos India)Dr. Vani Perumal (UTAS, Oman)Dr. Niranjana G (SRM IST)Dr. V. Mahendran (ISTE, Bangalore)Dr. Christy Persya A. (Amsive, USA), and Mr. Bezaleel S. (Enlight Wisdom), shared their insights and expertise.

Highlights of the FDP included hands-on ideation workshops, case studies like Mini Eye for visually challenged individuals, discussions on AI in software engineering, and explorations into the future of multi-agent systems.

Space Situational Awareness – A Path for Space Sustainability

The Department of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering organized a guest lecture on the topic “Space Situational Awareness – A Path for Space Sustainability” on 26th July 2025, in commemoration of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial. The resource person for the session was Mr. Hariharan K., Scientist-SF, VSSC.

The session provided valuable insights into the significance of monitoring and managing space debris to ensure the long-term sustainability of space missions. Students were exposed to the real-world challenges and strategies adopted by ISRO in the field of space situational awareness.

As part of the event, a felicitation ceremony was also conducted to recognize and honor the students who enrolled in the KCG SAT program, acknowledging their active participation and enthusiasm in satellite development initiatives.

One Day HandsOn Workshop On Agentic AI Unleashed:Building Nextgen GenAI Systems With Google Vertex Studio

The Department of Information Technology, KCG College of Technology, organized a one-day hands-on workshop on Agentic Artificial Intelligence with the theme “Unleashed: Building the Next-Gen GenAI Systems with Google Vertex Studio.” The primary objective of this workshop was to equip students with practical exposure to next-generation AI development platforms and to explore the role of agentic AI in solving real-world problems.

The session was conducted by Ms. Hemamalini Nithyanandam, Software Designer VI at HP Inc. With over a decade of professional experience in software engineering, cloud technologies, and AI applications, she provided valuable insights into the potential of agentic AI systems and demonstrated how Google Vertex Studio can be leveraged for AI model development, deployment, and scaling.




Workshop Highlights

  • Introduction to Agentic AI: Understanding the paradigm shift from traditional AI to agentic AI and its relevance in modern applications.
  • Google Vertex Studio Overview: Walkthrough of the platform’s tools and environment for managing datasets, building ML pipelines, and deploying GenAI systems.
  • Hands-on Sessions: Participants were guided step-by-step to build and test next-gen GenAI models using Vertex Studio.
  • Case Studies & Applications: Real-world applications of agentic AI in healthcare, finance, education, and automation were discussed.
  • Interactive Q&A: Participants engaged in a lively discussion about challenges, opportunities, and career prospects in AI.

Outcomes of the Workshop

  • Participants gained practical exposure to building GenAI systems.
  • Students understood the end-to-end workflow from dataset handling to deployment in Vertex Studio.
  • The workshop enhanced awareness about industry demands and emerging AI technologies.
  • Inspired participants to explore research and entrepreneurial opportunities in the field of AI.

Conclusion

The workshop was highly informative, interactive, and impactful. Participants appreciated the clarity and depth of the hands-on sessions. The resource person’s expertise and practical demonstrations enabled attendees to grasp both theoretical concepts and practical implementation of agentic AI systems.
