| Topic | JET PROPULSION |
Institute of Engineers India students chapter organized a guest lecture on Jet propulsion for Aeronautical, Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering students. Jet propulsion is the propulsion of an object in one direction, produced by ejecting a jet of fluid in the opposite direction. By Newton’s third law, the moving body is propelled in the opposite direction to the jet. Reaction engines operating on the principle of jet propulsion include the jet engine used for aircraft propulsion, , and the rocket engine and plasma thruster used for spacecraft propulsion.
Dr. Babu Viswanathan, Professor, IIT Madras took a very interesting lecture on “Jet Propulsion”. He gave a very detailed explanation on the topic through presentation slides. He explained the subject which was very informative and interesting through the videos. Many students took interest in learning more about the functioning of the jet engines parts through their queries. The lecture was very precise and understandable. The professor was ready to take students questions and he was enthusiastic to answer and clear our doubts. It was a very great experience to learn something new apart from regular class studies from him. Finally in his presentation he mentioned a quote which inspired students.

Centre For Transformational Leadership (CTL) is organizing a 1-day workshop on ‘Leadership Pathways’. Mr. George Koshi, Director- Learning & Development @ Sify Technologies is the expert facilitator.
A leader is not just born with special qualities and skills but everyone can become leaders with proper training and effort. We need to recognize the importance of leadership development, learn first to manage our self, and then apply leadership skills in real life. Centre of Transformational Leadership conducted a workshop on Leadership Pathways which was facilitated by Mr. George Koshi, Director- Learning & Development at Sify Technologies Limited, on Saturday, 31st April 2022.
Ms. Chrysolin D, student president CTL welcomed the gathering. This was followed by the induction of three new office bearers of the Student Steering Committee by the Principal Dr.P. DeivaSundari. After the introduction of the Chief Guest by Ms. Doreen a member of the Student Advisory Council, the workshop commenced. The first task was to write a song from the first letter of their name and a leadership behaviour corresponding to that letter. The teams were given a time limit of 20 minutes to verse and compose a tune and were asked to perform it on stage. This was an interesting and fun filled activity that introduced the participants even as it pulled them out of their comfort zone.
Another interesting activity was to study and discuss an image of cart drawn with square wheels. A member of each team presented the different perspectives that they had discussed. The square wheel image depicted the challenges faced by each individual or team in their lives and how important it is to communicate and choose the correct path that would lead to success. Eventually Mr. Koshi initiated an interactive session to discuss the similarities and differences between the roles of a teacher, trainer, coach, mentor, counsellor, facilitator and a leader. During the session many doubts of the students were clarified by our expert. Mr. Koshi also discussed the important qualities of a leader on how one should be empathetic, active, appreciative etc. and gave a brief explanation about feedback. He came up with real time examples for conditional and unconditional feedback
A listening task was conducted based on verbal and non-verbal communication and a member of each team was asked to narrate an incident from their life whereas the others were given a task to check how important it’s to listen and acknowledge. He also discussed the effective and ineffective leadership qualities. Towards the end of the session a memento was presented to our expert Mr.George Koshi by Dr. Anita Dean SA as a gesture of appreciation. MrDanush, member of the Student Advisory Council, rendered the Vote of Thanks.
