KCG – BOSCH Health Care Centre

Centre of Excellence in Medical Electronics

The Centre of Excellence in Medical Electronics was initiated in collaboration with Robert Bosch, Bangalore and Department of Electronics and Communication, KCG College of Technology on 04.12.18.This MOU aims on the usage of Fundus Camera developed by Robert Bosch and analysing the images for various eye related disorders.

Faculties of ECE,EEE and EIE were trained by Mr.Ravikumar, Senior Project Manager, and Robert Bosch on 10.01.19 to handle the Fundus Camera and to analysis Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) with the images captured.

Further tie-up was made with Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai to assist us in medical research and also allowing us to take part in their medical camps. In connection to this, a team of three members, Dr.V.Thulasi Bai, HOD/ECE,Mr. Sadasivam. S, AP/ECE and Ms. B.Thyla, AP/ECE took part in the camp organised by Sankara Nethralaya on 21.02.19 at Police Quarters, Kondithoppu, Chennai. This camp was conducted especially for the economically weak residence of nearby area. More than 50 people were examined and 30 potential eye images were captured. These images will be used in research on diabetic retinopathy with the help of medicals experts form Sanakara Nethralaya.

Second camp was conducted on 23.02.19 in Seetha Lakshmi Vidhyalaya at Vasudhevan Nagar, Chennai. In this camp two students of ECE department were involved along with Ms.Kavitha Balamurugan,Asso.,Prof/ECE and Ms.B.Thyla,AP/ECE .

The Department of EIE and the Student Affairs of the college jointly organized the  Mini Project Challenge on  23^rd February 2019. The Mini Project Competition was a unique competition for the third year students of the department. A total of 35 students as 9 different teams exhibited their projects in this event.. The final round of evaluation was carried outby eminent person from industry–Mr. Mohamed Habeeb, System Engineering Specialist, ABB Ability Innovation Centre. Department of Fashion Technology arranged a Guest Lecture of Shri. Subhash Kumar, Freelance Designer for the staff and students of the department on 28-02-2019 at Conference Hall, Dean Office. Shri.Subhash Kumar Chirayil Gopalan graduated as a Textile Engineer in 2001 from the Indian Institute of Handlooms and Textiles, Govt of India, Ministry of Textiles, Salem and specialisation in Textile Designing from London under the guidance of Mrs. Rebecca Hoyes, Associate Lecturer, Central St. Martins, University of Arts London.The designer elaborated about his journey and the success stories of projects he handled viz. Revival of ancient woven textiles to suit modern interiors, Floral Lampas – A Revival Project, Jacobean patterns, Banarasi Handloom uniform saree project for Taj Group and Kokeshi – an exclusive collection for a celebrity Pop Singer. Endorsing the sketches created by the students, he guided the students how to transfer their sketches into fabric with required texture and structure from which the targeted garment is stitched. He has also assured to conduct 4 days’ workshop to demonstrate the same in future.

Hackathon combines the terms “hacking” and “marathon” and implies an intense, uninterrupted, period of programming. More specifically, a Hackathon is a highly engaging, continuous event in which people in small groups produce a working software prototype in a limited amount of time.

 KCG Hackathon 2019  is an 6 hours Software Hackathon organized by the Programming club of KCG College of Technology in collaboration with Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) on 01^st March 2019.  17 teams (Total 45 participants) from 5 colleges participated in the event hacking some real problems.

The event started with an Icebreaking session. Mr. Dorai Thodla briefed the rules and regulation of the Hackathon. The Coding Timer started running at 09.30 am

The theme of the Hackathon was “AI in Teaching and Learning”.

Participants were asked to work on any of the following categories:

1. Chatbots
2. ML based prediction applications
3. ML based recommendation systems
4. UX Design for Learning/Teaching Applications
5. Animations or Explainer videos of an AI/ML concept

Participants were asked to produce any one of the outcomes from the above categories.

1. A working prototype (code)
2. A UI/UX prototype (using Balsamiq or any other wire framing technology)
3. An animation of how the product works

The valedictory ceremony started at 6.00 pm. Principal Dr. G Prabhakaran and Dr. M. Krishnamurthy, HoD-CSE addressed the gathering. The prizes for first 3 teams were sponsored by EDII and the prizes were distributed by the EDII team. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Mr. S Cloudin, Associate Professor, Dept. Of CSE.

KCG college of Technology  always strives to make the campus sensitive and aware towards environment. With the noble mission of making our city green and serene, KCG participated in Tree Plantation Drive on Saturday 2^nd March , 2019. The motto behind this mega initiative was an effort to Make KCG Green  . The drive was organized under the patronage and guidance of Dr.Prabhakaran, Principal KCG College of Technology, Vise Principal, Dean Academics,Associate Dean, Dr.Frank Vijay J ,Head IT Department ,SpoC Infosys and various Department heads along with fewe students to make the drive a grand success. This occasion was hosted by Comcast  with infosys employees nearly 25 participated .A group of enthusiastic Team planted more than 31  saplings of herbal plants such as Jatropa , Jamun ,Kalanchoe Pinnata, Bael, Neem, Basil, Ashwgandha etc. The students planted saplings in the garden of a nearby Play area to raise awareness and consciousness about environment among the masses. The drive was a huge success empowering students with substantial knowledge of environment and plants and simultaneously enhancing their social skills.

EVENT SUMMARY

On March 2, 2019, KCG College of Technology conducted a State level project competition for the polytechnic students all over Tamil Nadu. The event focused on showcasing the innovations of young bright minds of our state. The competition was open to polytechnic students of Auto, CSE, IT, Mech, ECE, EEE, E&I, Civil and Fashion departments where almost 60 students belonging to various institutions came to showcase their projects.

The registrations were done online with 20^th of February, 2019 set as the last date for submission of abstracts. The confirmation mail was received from the students by 23^rd of February. The students from various colleges arrived at the registration desk by 08:30 hours on 2^nd March 2019 where they paid their registration fees and collected their kit. The venue list for the exhibition of the project for various departments were informed and the students went to their respective venue without any hassle.

The students displayed their projects in an organized manner and the projects were open for exhibition at 10:00 hrs. Judges were allotted their respective departments. The judging criteria were based on various leads, most of which comprised of the level of innovation, working of the model and presentation techniques. Lunch commenced at 1230 hours and the participants were directed to the dining hall. Meanwhile, the results from the judges of various departments were consolidated and the preparations for the valedictory ceremony were done.

The valedictory ceremony commenced at 1430 hours with an enthralling dance performance by the KCG dance team. The event was graced by the presence of the chief guest Dr. M. Arularasu, Additional Director of Technical Education, DOTE,Chennai. Dr. M. Arularasu was felicitated Dr. Easu, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, KCG college of Technology. The chief guest enlightened the minds of the students by his motivating talk. He expounded various industrial concepts in a worthy way and insisted to analyze and then express the concept in an astounding way through research. Three meritorious projects from each department were given cash awards and one best project from all the exhibits was selected as the overall winner. All the participants were given participation certificates. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Easu and the event concluded with the national anthem.

KCG college of Technology aspires to inspire the minds of young minds and bring the best out of them by providing platforms for various events. AnVer 2k19 was one among the many successful events conducted by the college and the college is set to conduct more events in the future.

The Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon Software Edition 2019 took place for 2 days from March 02-03 at 48 different centres across the country.

As per the statement of HRD Higher Education Secretary R Subramanian last year SIH had 7,400 entries and over one lakh students. This SIH 2019 had more than 52,000 entries from over 34,000 teams from over two lakh students.

The team “Hack-Red” from the ECE& CSE departments of KCG College of Technology made it to the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon under the theme “High Impact –Low Cost” , Problem statement given by Industry -Flucon. The team was one among the 1300 teams who reached the grand finale.

The team of 6 members consisted of Jayaroopini (8A, ECE), Krithika (8A,ECE), Monisha (8A,ECE), Vijayakumar (6B,CSE), Sharen (6B,CSE), and Satyam (4B,CSE). The team was mentored by Dr. Thulasi Bai, Head of the Department/ECE and Dr.R.DhanalakshmiProfessor/CSE. The team had their centre Sagar Institute of Research &Technology , Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

The 2 day Hackathon  began with a video conference with the HRD Higher Education Secretary R Subrahmanyamof Smart India Hackathon 2019 and inaugurated by the Hon’bleHuman Resource Development (HRD) Minister Mr.PrakashJavadekar. The Organising Secretary of Smart India Hackathon 2019,Ms. Sakshi Agrawal (Executive Director & Development Sagar Group of Institutions, Bhopal (MP), India)  other Media people  came to take a look at the products on day 2 & 3. There were several rounds of evaluation and the judges gave suggestions to improvise the module.

The Hack –Red team presented a MobileApp , a web page along with the API for screening the anemia using a Non invasive technique . Anaemia continues to be a major public health problem at all ages worldwide and about 24.8% of the total population is affected.The greatest number of individuals affected is pregnant women (41.8%) which may become the underlying case of maternal mortality and perinatal mortality. This App helps in mass screening for detecting the presence of anemia in both rural and urban community. It not only just screens anemia but also suggest remedies to overcome anemia. A chatbotwas created to communicate with the users which can reduce the communication barrier between doctor and patients.The judgesappreciated the low cost – high impact Mobile App developed that can be used to overcome language and cultural barriers between doctors and Patients.

KCG Quiz Club at its first attempt organized a National level Inter Quiz contest –DUBLIN DALY 2K19 on March 8, Friday at KMC Auditorium in KCG College of Technology which was open to all between age 15-24. 51 teams from various colleges across Tamil Nadu & 23 Internal teams participated. The chief guest was Quiz Master Mr.Arvind Rajeev, CEO & Founder of XQUIZIT.

KCG Women’s Coding Club had organized a Mini Hackathon for girl students on 9.3.19 (Saturday). The event started with a formal inauguration by Principal Dr. G Prabhakaran. He addressed the students with the importance of programming and coding skills. Dr SumathiPoobal , Vice Principal addressed the gathering with a note on women empowerment and Dr.Sarukesi, Academic Dean briefed about the importance of participating in such events.

The contest started at 10.30 am, the girl students from most of the departmentregistered and participated in the event. Around 73 students (22 Teams) had participated. In Fore noon session, students were asked to solve 5 problems and in afternoon session they were asked to design  a responsive Website with a theme on Opening Coding Landscape to Women.

Ms Manimeglai / System Engineer and Ms Aswathy System Engineer, Infosys Limitedcame as mentor cum judges. They had evaluated the contest. The valedictory function started at 3.00 pm. The judges shared the industry expectation and views of the event. Finally judges announced the result. First prize was received by Pavithra S, Rammya S, NasreenBanu of first year CSE. The second prize was bagged by Lavanya, Jahnavi, AnuAbarna of First Year IT. The third prize was received by Fathima, Arthy, Dharani of third year. In order to motivate the students, the club has given a special award for 4^th and 5^th position too.

We,Mr.Sivagnanam , Ms. Smrithisri and Mr. Sathyanarayananfinal year students from Electronics and communication Department under the Guidance of Dr.V.ThulasiBai Prof &HoD/ECE depthave developed a project that uses the non-invasive techniques for blood glucose monitoring. We need to create a database through which we can train our system and help in producing efficient output.

With the permission of Principal, we have conducted a small Diabetic checkup camp on 11/03/2019 at Mother Theresa block, KCG College of Technology, Chennai along with the Eye Checkup Camp conducted by NSS Unit of KCG College of Technology and Lion’s Club-Karapakkam.
