World Plumbing Day is celebrated on March 11th every year. The Department of Civil Engineering of KCG College of Technology is associated with Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) as student chapter. In order to create awareness to the students on World plumbing day, the Department of Civil Engineering along with IPA has organized a Seminar on “I Save Water” for Civil Engineering students.

Mr. Abbas Shabbir Lehry, Chairman, IPA Chennai Chapter and Mr. Shankar, IPA mentor for KCG College of Technology were the Chief Guests for the Seminar on World Plumbing day. Dr. V. Vandhana Devi welcomed the Chief guests and Dean (Academic) for the Seminar. The Head of the Department stated that the purpose of this seminar was to create awareness about the importance of water in our lives and show ways to conserve this most important source of life. She encouraged her faculty and students to interact with the Chairman, IPA regarding the latest trends in plumbing industry and internship training for students to meet the industrial standards. Dr. Vandhana also emphasised on the need to save water by civil engineers. She also elaborated about the sustainable use of water resources for future generations.

She said that approximately 1.2 billion people lack reliable access to safe water that is free from disease and industrial waste. And 40 percent do not have access to adequate sanitation facilities. The result is one of the world’s greatest public health crises: 4,500 children die every day from waterborne diseases.

Mr. Abbas Shabbir Lehry delivered a talk on I Save Water and emphasized on saving water in our day today life. There was a question and answer session. The question asked was “How much potable water is available on earth?” it was answered as 1% by Mr. Surjith, final year Civil student and a gift was handed over to Mr. Surjit by the Chief guest.

Mr. Shankar delivered a motivational talk inspiring young civil engineering students. The entire session was an interactive session and the speakers answered many queries raised by the participants.

Dr. V. Vandhana Devi thanked the Chief guest and all dignitaries by delivering the vote of thanks.
