An estimate of 2/3 of all cancers are preventable says a research. Every year lakhs of Indians are devastated by the news of cancer and on an average more than 1,300 Indians succumb to the dreadful disease every year.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women across the world. In India too Breast Cancer is the leading cancer type in women, while cervical cancer is the second most common.

Since we have more than 50% of the women staff in our college, our management felt the need to have a Breast Cancer Awareness Program for the women staff. The Staff Wellness Program was held on 29th October, 2019 at S13 between 2.00 – 3.00 pm.

The Resource Person for the program was Dr Jegan, Medical Oncologist, CANCARE Foundation, Apollo Hospital and Kumaran Hospital. He created an awareness about cancer amongst the audience. He spoke about the causes, signs and symptoms of breast cancer and the treatment. He also spoke about the breast self-examination to find the abnormalities, lumps and nodes and approach the doctor for early detection and cure. He also said that cancer is treatable and curable at the early stage and the necessity of ongoing treatment and follow-up.

He mentioned about the Cervical Cancer Vaccines, Cervarix and Gardasil for ages 9 – 26. He spoke about healthy diet to be followed.

Queries were answered, clarified and the program created an awareness amongst the staff members.
