About The Department
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering exists since the inception of the institution, in the year 1998. The department offers B.E Computer Science and Engineering and M.E Computer Science and Engineering programs. The B.E programme was accredited by NBA for a period of 3 years and permanent affiliation has been granted by Anna University, Chennai from the academic year 2009-2010. M.E programme was started in the academic year 2010 – 2011. The department has been recognized as a Research centre by Anna University, Chennai from the academic year 2015-2016.
With the co-operation and involvement of the dedicated team of well-qualified faculty members, the department constantly strives to improve its academic standards. The Department has excellent infrastructure in terms of laboratories, classrooms, seminar hall etc. The department laboratories are interconnected through a well-designed seamless network with Internet facility with the speed of 100 Mbps to facilitate the student’s access to web resources. This helps the students in meeting the demands of the regular curriculum and latest technology needs.
The department is stepping forward to expand its wings from the national to international arena through appropriate industrial collaborations, funded projects, and consultancy and quality research. Department has received research fund from TNSCST.
It has signed MoUs with Infosys Limited, NASSCOM, HTC, CWRCD and Mazelon. To equip the students with the latest cutting edge technologies, the students are offered with Value Addition Courses such as Oracle, CCNA, Python Programming, Big Data and Cyber Security. The Special Interest Groups for Programming, Networking, IoT, Mozilla Firefox and Data Analytics provides a wider platform for the students to explore their technical skills in their specific area of interest. Programming skill competitions, Technical paper, Poster and Project presentations are conducted. Regular industrial visits and internship opportunities offered by the department equips the students industry ready.
The membership activities in professional bodies are in full swing and there are avenues for students to participate in various national and international technical and cultural competitions. The department has a vibrant student chapter for the international professional body, The Institution of Engineering and Technology, (IET-UK). The department has consistently produced university ranks and has been bestowed with the ‘BEST DEPARTMENT IN THE COLLEGE’ award for three consecutive years. The department also provides personality development programmes for students, facilitates Industry-Institution interaction and offers placement assistance. It has a consistent placement record of students in Infosys, TCS, HCL, IBM, Zoho, Kaar Technologies, Amazon, Tech Mahindra, CapGemini etc.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has established DELL – EMC Center of Academic Excellence in the field of ‘Data Science and Big Data Analytics’ in association with ICTACT Academy. Better interaction between Institutions and Industry is the need of an hour. For students it is important because they get exposure to industry and subsequent placement in various disciplines. On the other hand, with the advent of globalization and opening up of Indian economy to outside world, competition among the industries has become stiff. So industries also need good students who are well aware of industry standards and capable of achieving so. Therefore, there is an urgent need of interaction of industry and academics where academic institutes can prepare students for jobs in multinational companies and industry will also be benefited by possibility of receiving well-trained workforce. For this to become reality, bridging the gap between industry and the academic institute is a must and for this, an Industry Institute
Interaction activities were organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering
OBJECTIVES:
- To cultivate the strong links with industry.
- To promote various industrial activities by the faculty members and students.
- To catalyze the further growth and development of interaction between the Institute and Industry.
- To have a closer linkage and promote research suited to industry needs, and consultancy which creates a sense of owning among faculty members.
- To provide continuing education to people working in industries so that they can upgrade their technical knowledge, and / or obtain higher degrees; this orients the faculty members towards the industry from the portals of College i.e. Academics.
- To enable academics to take a sabbatical in industries; provide internships for students in industries, which will prepare the students better for entering the industry;
- To create an industrial chair in the university; and to enable the appointment of experienced industry resource persons as visiting faculty in the College
- To bring about MOU’S and Agreements with various industrial and research organizations in different fields and sectors to promote various forms of interactions.
