Flow characteristics of convergent divergent nozzle at supersonic and subsonic speeds

The Convergent-Divergent (CD) nozzles are designed for a optimum operating Exit Mach number. The proper area ratio (Ae/At) and Pressure ration (Pi/P) is necessary to generate the required Mach number in the CD nozzle. The experiment is conducted for nozzle designed for exit Mach number 3.0.

The pressure ratio (Pi/P) is calculated from isentropic relation given below

Pi

The Area ratio (Ae/At) is calculated from the Area-Mach number relation

Ae

Where

     Pi - Nozzle Inlet pressure
     P - Nozzle exit pressure
     γ - Specific heat ratio

     M - Designed Mach number
     Ae - Nozzle Exit Area
     At - Nozzle Throat Area
